We know it’s August and we’ve been promised a heatwave (we’ll believe it when we see it), but it’s never too early to start thinking about your sartorial choices for the upcoming season. Sadly, autumn really isn’t that far away – so here are a few fashion mistakes you’d perhaps do well to avoid.
A darker colour palette
Pastels are perfect for summer and just because it’s September doesn’t mean you have to stop wearing bright colours and just dress in black and brown. Start toning your colour palette down from September onwards but don’t discard the brighter shades just yet.
Now’s not the time to start rocking your chunky cable knit fisherman’s sweater – it’s certainly not cold enough for that – but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear a jumper if the mood takes you. Just look out for something light like cashmere that can be layered up with ease.
They say that no self-respecting man would ever be seen with an umbrella but in autumn, that’s simply ridiculous. You can get some amazing (and manly) umbrellas these days so don’t leave the house without one. Plus it means you’re able to play the gentleman if a downpour suddenly hits and you see a damsel in distress.
Think about your feet
It might be warm outside still but it’s more likely to rain (a lot) from September ofall nwards, so think about what you’re going to put on your feet. Canvas shoes probably aren’t the best choice but something like Chelsea boots (which actually look good with basically anything) are a good idea for sure.
