Milan has long been one of the fashion centres of the world, so when it hosted its Men’s Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017, all eyes were on the Italian city to see what urban clothing trends guys will be wearing next year.
The utility trend will be popular with streetwear fans, with sand-coloured shirts, T-shirts and light-weighted anoraks causing a storm on the catwalk.
Team the all-khaki outfits with multi-strapped sandals (to be worn with socks), skinny trousers and a beaded necklace and you will look like a true backpacker – or a fashion devotee.
Alternatively, add a splash of colour to the outfits, as brightly coloured travelling attire was also popular with designers. Patterned jackets worn with backpacks and cowboy hats were big hits, appealing to the younger audience.
Trousers have typically been kept plain and simple over the years, but next summer sees a new trend emerge – stripes.
Bold-coloured trousers with thick vertical stripes were teamed with T-shirts and shirts, over-the- shoulder bags, and sunglasses.
Don’t be afraid to wear a top with horizontal stripes, as this style is all about contrast.
Return of the ‘1980s
While Italy is well-known for its tailored and sophisticated looks, this year’s catwalk saw a more casual style, particularly with the return of 1980s’ trends.
The bomber jacket (in a variety of patterns), for instance, re-emerged, as well as tapered trousers that finished above the ankle, flatcaps and loafers.
Those who are confident to pull this off will look incredibly stylish next spring/summer!
