You’ve got the fresh clothing, now you need the fresh fragrance to go with your clothes. Heavier scents work better for winter but with summer on the horizon (oh, hello!), you need something clean and fresh, something inviting that makes you – and everyone who smells you think of lazy days by the beach, pints at the pub, the sun beating down on your head… Here are five that should help you tick those boxes and then some.
Tom Ford Costa Azzurra
This is one of the brand’s more summery scents, apparently inspired by the beautiful coastlines of Sardinia – so it’ll probably make you book a holiday as soon as you add a touch to your neck. You’ll spot notes of herbs and citrus, as well as vanilla, driftwood, oak and a touch of saltiness in there for good measure. Probably best to wear it on those balmy summer nights that are just around the corner.
John Varvatos Artisan Blu
This is the perfect fragrance for the warm weather, with a touch of nautical inspiration to it. Look out for the scents of lemon and chayote (a fruit, apparently, from the melon and cucumber family), as well as pistachio, pine and patchouli. It’ll look great on your dresser as well, since it comes in a teal bottle with a sleeve somewhat similar to a fisherman’s net.
Paul Smith Sunshine for Men
Does exactly what it says on the tin, really. This fragrance comes with notes of citrus, coriander and grapefruit, as well as nutmeg, black pepper and anise. If you’re looking for a fragrance that will last from dawn till dusk, this is it… but be aware that it is quite sweet-smelling so may not work for all of you.
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Swimming in Lipari
Bit of a mouthful but don’t let that dissuade you from giving it a go. Light Blue, since it was launched in 2007, has become something of a classic so we’re pleased to see that the brand has brought out a solid summer version of the scent. Bask in the smells of citrus, grapefruit and rosemary, as well as sea salt and sweet ambergris.
Davidoff Cool Water Summer Seas
It wouldn’t be a blog post about men’s summer fragrances without mentioning Davidoff Cool Water. The Summer Seas version is the 16th limited-edition release of the brand’s renowned scent and you’ll notice that the trademark mint and seawater notes are still prominent, but this time a more citrusy note of mandarin and sandalwood has been included.
